The Director of Incredible Products
My first exposure to personal computers was the Apple II in my high school computer room. That small classroom was where I fell in love with computers, and met my life long best friend. My first job was working on a Mac SE doing screen designs for a US army artillery system. I saved up all my money from that summer job to buy a Mac SE with a 20 MB hard drive. I did my MBA on a MacBook duo, spending countless hours in front of the black and white screen writing papers. I now own about every Apple device available and over the years have convinced all of my family to only buy Apple products.
I always felt that it was Steve Jobs who made Apple so great, it was his vision and ruthless obsession with making incredible products that made Apple the best IT company in the world.
You could feel his deep-rooted love of design and simplicity in all Apple products.
In the film industry directors of films are given the honour being able to call the film their film. It is no longer a film directed by, or a small credit at end of the film in a list of others. A film director gets to says "a film by (your name here)," or "a (your name) film."
Steve Jobs should be given that right for the Macintosh computer, the iPod, the iPhone, and the iPad. It is not that Apple was only Steve Jobs; it is an incredible group of very talented, intelligent and dedicated individuals. But, this can also be said of almost every great film; it is not only the director, but the incredible team that works on that film that makes it great. However, everyone is happy to acknowledge that the director owns the vision and it is the successful implementation of that vision that makes the film ultimately great. Therefore, it is the director’s film and it says that clearly.
Steve Jobs was the director of Apple in this sense, he had the vision, he took responsibility for the successful implementation of that vision and he succeeded. He brought us all life changing incredible products. I never knew what I was missing until I experienced my first Macintosh computer, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
Steve Jobs made my life better and easier through the products his company made, and his insistence that they be incredible. Thank you Steve. RIP.
